Mother of a migraine today. But, productivity continues.

Yesterday was clairdeluney's birthday!

We had a birthday dinner over at her student flat. I offered to make the cake.

My favorite birthday cake is angel food, especially with a raspberry sauce.

She suggested a new one on me: chocolate-banana cake.

Here's what it turned out to look like-

It's super easy, though, I'm sure it could be made more exciting. I was on a schedule. :)

Chocolate-Banana Cake

1. Bake a cake from a mix. As you can see above, I made two loaves. Make the cake however you like, but you need to have layers, the more the better.

2. Slice the cake into whatever layers you're going to have.

3. Place a layer of sliced bananas onto the bottom layer then squirt/spoon cream all over the layer of banana.

4. Slap the next layer on top.

5. Repeat 3.

It would probably be just as good without the outer layer of icing, but it kept the moisture of the banana and cream in.

I ran out of time, but I'm guessing this would be lovely covered in nuts. :)

Because we already celebrated, thinking he'd be in Brazil on his birthday and because we've been under the gun of 'you might be going offshore shortly', I've not arranged anything big for today. I'll be getting something together when he comes back in January. Keep an eye out for that, local folk.

Last night, my excuse for a roommate decided that we needed to celebrate my birthday. So, she invited a bunch of people that I don't generally hang out with and took all of us down to Mellow Mushroom. Luckily, I managed to snag one of my fellow Scholars after Seminar and he joined us for dinner. After about 20 minutes of contrived jollitry, we skipped out.

He knows me better than I thought it turns out. He took me (without being told) to my fav bar in Chatt-Town, Mary McGuire's. We sat, had some Guinness, a little something else, and then headed home.

Probably one of the best birthday celebrations I've had in a while. All I ask, after all, is a man who can take charge and who can still make interesting conversation.

So, I am a little schizo today. Happy for a great last night, and hating the whole "let's sing to you" crap that always happens on birthdays.

Partying is such sweet sorrow.
