| ybunny comes home tomorrow! Much rejoicing!
I was mentioning to atticus_frog that there is a difference in my mind between being a fan and being a fangirl (or boy, whatever). I feel to old, too crochety, or too busy to get as excited as I once did about as many books/films/people. As hatsumomo pointed out, it is a very dull person who can't get excited about anything, even if those things are supposedly childish. (Insert mumbling about finishing Book 7 in about 4 hours. *mumblemumble*)I believe my first instance of fangirling anything came at 9 when I received the old Del Ray box set of Tolkien novels. Four books... The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy...which I wore to pieces reading. I tried to make my way through the Silmarillion, but at 10, when I picked it up, it wasn't a very good read. Cut to 6 years later. This was before the advent of online booksellers that made finding books easy. I spent a good bit of time scouring the used bookstores of Western North Carolina trying to get my hands on some more books by Judith Tarr. (Finding A Wind in Cairo took forEVER.) While at the Asheville's Downtown Books and News on Lexington, I happened upon a book by Guy Gavriel Kay. I wasn't looking for that, but the name was familiar. I liked the cover art, so I took it home. It finally dawned on me, this was the guy that had worked with Christopher Tolkien to edit the Silmarillion. The book in question is The Lions of Al-Rassan. US Amazon link and UK Amazon link Sadly, they've changed the cover art.The story is gripping. Set in a world easy comparable to medieval Spain, the plot involves a love triangle with protagonists representing three religions, renamed versions of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. There's a bit of El Cid legend thrown in for good measure. Well friend, Hollywood has gotten hold of Lions. magid mentioned it previously, but I'd sort of blocked it out, I suppose. The original discovery is hers. The only detail forthcoming involves the choice of director, Edward Zwick. Because I love the book so much, I fear for its translation to the big screen. But, I have to admit that I really liked Zwick's Last Samurai (even with Tom Cruise). He was also involved with two of my favorites, Shakespeare in Love and Dangerous Beauty, as a producer. Kay's site, Bright Weavings, has little to say on the topic, but does admit to 'low grade discussions with Hollywood'. As of 15 June, Warner Brothers has the first draft script, but no casting decisions have been made. Here's the thing, Zwick: I'll be there for the film, if/when it gets made. You've got my money already, as it were. But, please, let's keeps to the story. Don't let the them push you into making a swash-buckling film that hollows out the plot. (Not that I have anything against buckling swashes.) What book would you like to see made into a film?

| Saw Constantine. I didn't hate it as some have, but then again I've only ever read graphic novels under duress, so I had no previous knowledge of what Hellblazer was supposed to be like. I had a few nitpicky quibbles with the film, but one the whole I thought it was quite likeable. Anyway... After the movie, we jaunted over to Ortak with shineyquarter and percible. She has a lovely ring. :) We went by John Lewis yet again to get a food scale and a nice cheese grater. I got a hair dryer as well. On the way out we came extremely close to buying a little something for shineyquarter. Apparently, it's not viewable on the website, ah well. Just as we got back into the flat, ybunny got a text from Tim. After some wrangling, they decided to meet at the Wynd at 9. Tim, Sion, Emma, Alan, ybunny, and myself had quite a good night out, only cut short when we started feeling very hungry. Sion and Emma went off in search of 'real' food, while the rest of us went over to the chip shop to grab just a small bite. Home again, and same old, same old. :) | |

| Watching Anchorman. The leading lady, Christina Applegate, playing Veronica Corningstone, is supposedly from Asheville. Odd. Quite odd. *blank look* | |

| We saw Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events today. It was quite odd, but quite good; the kind of movie that I wish had been made when I was little. I would like to have spent longer talking to ybunny today, but since he was sick, I didn't want to give him an excuse not to sleep off this bug...and when we did get around to iChatting, I couldn't stay awake for the life of me. Eh. I'm taking care of 4 horses (whose names I don't remember), two dogs (Lucky and Emu), and two cats (Patches and something). I've got to drive out there twice a day to do this. Don't take me wrong, I'm glad to do this for my aunt and uncle...but I'd better get some kind of compensation. Heh. :) We're working on a puzzle right now...it is taking not too long, though we finished all the easy-at-all-bits today so now we are onto the vast field of vaguely greenish black that is the sky. I'm a bit compulsive as it turns out, in regard to puzzles...I make little piles of the same shape so that I can try all that might fit into place. Tomorrow, we will get up and take care of the animals...possibly hit church...go with shineyquarter's relatives to lunch...and then laze about some more with the puzzle. Night all. | |

| *whine*Idon'twannagotowork...*whine*
I didn't think I could handle bellydance tonight, my head seems to reject any activity that requires it to change direction or height quickly.
So, I'm sitting here very, very quietly watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Kitten is making my core temperature rise by at least three degrees. Hot bastard.
Is it Thursday night already? Bah.

| You must see Garden State.
That is all. | |

| readyreadyreadyreadyreadyreadyreadyready readyreadyreadyreadyready So, in my effort to keep myself from bouncing like a bouncy thing I have/will: 1. Make the rowies/butteries/Aberdeen rolls, possible some with the cherries which realllllllly need eating. 2. Pack. 3. Watch the movie we rented that got skipped this weekend so that shineyquarter can then watch it if she so chooses. 4. Tidy the room as much as possible since golfbisquit is asleep in it. 5. Call and wake ybunny at 11:45p/4:45a so that I know he's up. (Hey, don't look at me like that...the taxi comes at 5:20, so I'm not being mean and depriving of sleep...) Did I mention I'm bouncy? :) | |

| hey, there's a cat behind him.
Oh, wait...that's his hat.
I like period pieces...yes I do. :)

| I've watched Amelie today. It is a thoroughly satisfying movie. I wish I hadn't waited so long to watch it.
The thought that I am left with is this: I love surprises. When Amelie is baking and imagines her lover to be sneaking back in on her, I related more to that moment than most any other in that movie...or any other. It could be as little as something of that sort, creeping up on someone when you know they are about...or as big as plotting a surprise that takes months to develop.
I love giving those surprises as much as getting them. It could be for or from anyone. It doesn't have to be of a romantic nature, though that is nice. ;)
Has anyone surprised you that way? Do you know what I mean?

| shineyquarter is prostrate with laughter. Pocky will stick to your shirt. Be certain not to lose it down your front while in theater. Just an FYI. Move along. :) | |

| I want Carry On films! Argh!
America hasn't taken to those, apparently. Can't rent, can't buy just one on DVD. I don't want 12 for $60...I just want to hear the guy say "Oh, helloooo" and "Ooer, missus".
Meh. | |

| Happy Birthday to me. Heh. Anycase, shineyquarter made Special K loaf and tatties with peas and garlic bread for my birthday lunch. It seems that eating is about the only planned thing we get around to these days. Hmm... Anycase, after lunch, shineyquarter amd percible started playing some video game while I was commissioned to think of what I wanted to do for my birthday. Eventually, the two gamers stopped and joined ybunny and I in contemplation of this. We finally decided to go out to Sam's Chinese restaurant later that evening for a 'dinner and a movie' double date. Since it takes a guy a while to put on a kilt, we headed back to ybunny's to get ready. Dinner was fantastic, Bird's Nest Noodle vegetable for me and some lemon chicken for the bunny that tasted like FriChik. I think the other two had duck. The movie was Last Samurai. I cried. Enough said. Today, we've been ever so lazy once again. But we will do laundry, so all is not lost. Not sure what the other plans are. We'll see. | |
