...and yes, it's all fecked up.

So. The laptop fell. This will make the third time I've dropped my laptop. This time, it was a cat aided drop. Also, this time the laptop was open. This apparently makes a difference. At the moment, Greenfish will start up but once it gets past the initial apple logo/spinning wheel it doesn't do anything else.

Because of this, I won't be online except to check email on a very infrequent basis. If you are waiting on response from me for anything, you may need to email again if you sent anything days ago, I know that some emails got downloaded to the laptop that I didn't get to see before the crash.

For the next month, in case it takes that long to fix the lappy, I will be preparing to start my PhD. Even typing that makes me just slightly panicky. But, at least the Fiance is home for at least a while.

[EDIT] The lappy is working again. I'm having random problems, I believe it's the logic board again. Luckily, I've six more months of AppleCare. Fix it, biatches!

Hurrah, Tom's home! :D

Right. I've got a referral to a thyroid specialist. Finally. The doctor today basically proved me right; 'You should have been seen at the Thyroid Clinic as soon as you were entered in the system.' Take that stupid doctor man of last year! I'm not sure at the moment what will happen, but at least progress is being made.

On the other issue, my laptop is quite sick. Apparently the logic board is shot. (A common problem with the G4 iBooks of mine laptop's generation.) So, they are sending me a box, and I'm sending it off. It won't boot at all now, and I never had any luck last night with getting the DVD out of the drive, so they may be keeping my copy of Songcatcher. Can't be helped. By the way, I <3 Applecare. :)

Basically, this means that I'm without my own computer for access during the next ten days, plus I can't finish my submission at this point, ladyoneill. I will finish, but it obviously won't be even close to the deadline now. :(

I've been trying to reboot my computer for 2 hours now.

This has happened before, I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong but I don't know how to fix it.

An overview:

1. Computer crashed.

2. I restarted it. Computer proceeds through 'grey apple/cog' screen, shows
the 'osx is starting up' screen, then goes directly to a blank blue screen, but still shows a mouse cursor.

3. The computer thinks that a user is still logged in and so won't display the login dialogue that should follow the 'osx is starting up' screen.

4. Previously, I fixed this by asking the computer to start in safe mode. The computer will not boot into safe mode at present. I hold down the shift key, as you do to get safe mode, and the computer proceeds to hang up at the 'grey apple/cog' screen. (This isn't me being impatient, I gave it 1/2 hour this last time.)

5. I can however, boot into single user mode. I fsck'd the disk and it came back clean, so I can only assume that it is still the failure to log out previous user upon crash.

With all that in mind, especially noting that safe mode seems to be inoperable, how would you 'force' the computer to give the login dialogue?

The printer that ybunny bought is huge! (Well, not that huge. But big.)

It prints fast. Fast, fast.

Hurrah for a printer I won't have to swear at. :)

Well, I've not got anything accomplished today that I wanted to accomplish.

That's not to say I've not accomplished anything, I have.

1. Moved current TV off TV stand, moved TV stand into kitchen (we're going to use it as a pantry-ish thing.)

2. Moved bureau that was in the kitchen into the spare room.

3. Set up Whitefish (the mac mini) in the living room.

4. Remembered that I have to connect Whitefish to the amplifier if we intend to have sound as well as picture.

5. Moved monitor through from the PC so I could see what I was doing as I muddled about.

6. Realized that I didn't know the password to Whitefish. (Thank goodness that percible remembered ybunny's penchant for capitalization.)

7. Decided that two sets of knives in the kitchen is more than a bit redundant, moved good knives onto magnetic strip.

8. Realized that there is now room on the counter. Hurrah.

9. Discovered that I've really mucked up the cord situation with the PC.

10. View the changes and try to visualize the new TV as it will sit above the hearth.

Ah, accomplishments.

The new iPod is cute and all, but the one thing it's missing is the old wired remote control.

It's got a fancy smancy wireless remote, but how dumb are you going to look on the bus pointing the remote in the vague area of your crotch/pocket.

Greenfish and Bluefish have a new compatriot, Whitefish.

Well, I decided I needed some brighter colors for my journal.
They are vaguely the colors of my perhaps-one-day-if-I'm-a-very-good-girl living room.

I slept far too much this weekend, but yet I'm still horribly tired.

We had a fiasco involving a lingerie party earlier that caused me to miss out talking to ybunny before he wandered off to bed.

I took my bike in today to get a tuneup. I don't have too much longer to live in this area, but I'd like to get used to riding a bike again since while riding in Aberdeen I managed to fall off spectacularly. It's going to cost about $100, but I'd rather they fixed the tires/brakes/gears/chain than me doing it. It's really not something I'm prepared to do at present.

I've named my iPod Shuffle 'Aliquantulus'.

Off to find food.

They've got wireless at the Mercedes dealership.

It almost, but not quite makes up for having to deal with these age-ist snobs.

The kitten and Scully are getting along so well. We have such sweet cats.

She was licking him on him head and he was snuggling up to her. Now they are sleeping all cuddled up to each other.

I would post pictures, but I only have ybunny's iBook for internet until he arrives.

I talked with percible about this briefly tonight, but I'd like to get a few more opinions on the matter...

Since I'll be going to an iPod as my mp3er quite shortly. (*crosses fingers*), I've been using iTunes more and more and WinAmp less and less.

However, in the last few weeks, iTunes has been having trouble.
Music played in iTunes pops and crackles after about 30 to 45 seconds of play time.
It doesn't start out popping or crackling.
None of the tracks when cross checked with WinAmp pop or crackle intrinsically.
iTunes hasn't always done this to me.

I updated to the newest version of iTunes thinking that would help.
No dice.

I've muddled about with the equalizer.
No dice.

I tried Googling for a solution. No solutions readily presented themselves, though one person's theory is that this is the deliberate errors put on CD in an effort to prevent piracy.

However, my music is quite eclectic in source. Some of it is .wavs recorded on my old mp3er (no deliberate errors I could imagine there...), .wavs/.mp3s from others, downloaded music, music ripped through WinAmp, MusicMatch, and iTunes. They couldn't all be problematic in the same way, could they?

Anycase, if you've made it this far, let me know if you have any ideas...

There is something somehow just so right about stripping down, washing everything you have on, and then putting it back on right out of the dryer.

In other news, my iPod can't be 'mounted'. That's just so dirty. Methinks it will have to make a trip back to Apple-land to be fixed. Ah, well. I'm not roaming about right now anyway.

Yesterday. Bed until noon. Mmm...lazinessssssssssss.

Then Safeway for a few necessities. Then ybunny wasn't feeling wonderful, so we returned to the flat and laid back down until percible and shineyquarter arrived to make risotto. Not much to tell about that other than archie_rss required company in alcohol drinking. So, everyone but percible ended up drinking at least a little. Though, percible was high enough on the codeine to be just as weird.

This morning, after a shorter lie in, we're off to Edinburgh. I'm sitting here using percible's Powerbook and being threatened with violence if the crumbs from the rowies get on the keyboard. Hmm.

Anycase, we're meant to get the flashes for golfbisquit in Queensferry and then there may be FEESH. Ahem.
