ybunny: The Guinness sold in the UK is made in London now, that's why it tastes different than the Irish Guinness.

rethought: Ah. So, the difference must be the water they use.

ybunny: And the hops. *pause* and the porridge and the coffee they add.

rethought: Oh, right...and the Marmite.

ybunny: Yeah, it's thick enough.

I was lucky enough to be taken out to an old man's pub in Galway when I was working out there. The Guinness was lovely, but seemed a bit stronger than what I was used to. I got a little drunk :)

That sounds like great fun. :) I'm ashamed to say I had no Guinness the entire time I was in Ireland. Ah well.

Now? its been like that for about 100 years! ;)

The Irish stuff doesn't travel too well, but the london stuff does (something to do with the mix) so anything that is made on these shores and shipped out is from London..

I thought I heard a rumour they were going to stop making it at Park Royal and ship if from Dublin instead. Not sure where I heard that now I think about it though.

Hmm... I wonder what makes the difference.
