Dear self,

It has come to my attention that we are spending entirely too much time in the Aberdeen bus system. Missing your stop at the university and having to all the way to Danestone and back can be excused by the fogginess of your first-few-days-sick mind. However, getting on the 22 bus and spending an hour going to Mastrick and back when you meant to go to Berryden is just unconscionable.

Please, use the brain that you are lugging about.

In other news, I bought enough gluten-free goodies at Sainsbury's to make it worth it in the long run. And, I bought myself some lovely gluten-y egg pasta. So, I guess there is a happy ending after all.

Are you gluten intolerant?
2nd-Dec-2005 08:13 pm (UTC)
Nope. Tried, tested, and negative.

My mom and her brother's wife are...as was my grandfather (though he wasn't diagnosed).

I've know quite a few people now with celiac disease. The UK is much better about making things that are gluten-free that don't taste like furniture stuffing. :)

Ahhh, you're buying for others...

Really? My grandpa is on a gluten-free diet - maybe I should check out one of the speciality shops around here.

The bigger the city in the US, the better the chance you'll find good stuff. this company makes the best of the non-gluten pasta and it is pretty readily available.

Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, the Fresh Market, and others have a decent selection of GF foods. We found shed loads of new stuff when I was in DC two summers ago.

However, I've yet to see anywhere in the US that markets as much as Sainbury's. They have their own in house brand as well as selling most everything else that's decent to eat.

Didja get the bourbon biscuits? I think she only had one box left.

I've ridden buses for no reason before. Never somewhere I've been living, though... well, I may have in Valencia. Can't remember.

Yes. I bought the out of the gluten free.

Plus I bought Caleb 3x 400g of regular bourbon biscuits.

mmmmmmm's bourbon
2nd-Dec-2005 08:35 pm (UTC)
Bourbons are the best bikky for dunking in tea. Mmmmm, bourbons!
2nd-Dec-2005 08:46 pm (UTC) - Yes I am a pleb :)
What about Cadbury's Fingers, used as straws?
2nd-Dec-2005 08:48 pm (UTC) - Re: Yes I am a pleb :)
Cadbury fingers are good, but for me, the bourbon is the dunking king.
2nd-Dec-2005 09:56 pm (UTC) - Re: Yes I am a pleb :)
I've never had Cadbury's fingers. Something new to try. :)
2nd-Dec-2005 10:01 pm (UTC) - Re: Yes I am a pleb :)
they are good
2nd-Dec-2005 10:00 pm (UTC) - Re: Yes I am a pleb :)
I knew I forgot about something :)
2nd-Dec-2005 08:51 pm (UTC)
not sure about that.
I'm still taken with richteas.
don't get me wrong I wouldn't turn away a bourbon with my tea.
2nd-Dec-2005 09:47 pm (UTC)
Richteas do stand up to more dunking before falling into your tea so that's a definately plus point.
2nd-Dec-2005 09:52 pm (UTC)
I didn't know you liked bourbon biscuits. I'd have started buying them for us and not just Caleb. :)
2nd-Dec-2005 09:54 pm (UTC)
The way you say that implies that it is possible for people to not like bourbon biscuits. Surely that isn't possible?!?
2nd-Dec-2005 09:59 pm (UTC)
yup, I like most bikkies.
I just don't buy that many
2nd-Dec-2005 09:57 pm (UTC)
I'll have to try that. *goes to put the kettle on*
2nd-Dec-2005 10:00 pm (UTC)
I'm full of useful tips like that :) Just be sure not to leave the bikky in the tea for too long or you'll end up with a bisquity sludge at the bottom of the mug.
2nd-Dec-2005 10:02 pm (UTC)
I'll be careful, cause...that's just eww.
2nd-Dec-2005 10:03 pm (UTC)
That it is. Worry not though, with practise you'll soon become the skilled bikky dunker that I am.
2nd-Dec-2005 10:03 pm (UTC)
it's still good bisquity sludge though.
