Birfday, smurfday

birthday cake
Well, I have a vague idea of motherhood at this point. Last night, Caoimhe decided to randomly howl from 1-3am. I don't know why.

Then, she did an encore from 5:30-7am. I don't know why. Maybe she thought it would make a good birthday gift.

Today is also the first full day of the smoking ban in Scotland. I'd be excited, but I really never have any reason to go to places where there is smoking.

All I can hope is that perhaps the ban will cause some people to quit.

Happy birthday, regardless of the howling :)

Oh, dear God. That would be horrible.

But, thanks. :)

G and I were in the Tunnels last night for a celebratory pint of Guinness. The air was so clear compared to the night before that I could have sworn I was at an open air gig.

Happy birthday btw. There is a greeting on wheeee.org, but lj rss feed pickup has got rather crappy of late, slipping from once an hour to something like three. Boo.

Happy birthday! :-)

I was reading an older book (one of the best comprehensive histories of the Spanish campaigns in the Napoleoninc Wars) last night and discovered that the author was head of something called the Centre for Defence Studies at U of A, which quite intrigued me. I'm trying to ascertain if that's still around, has transmuted into something else, or just died off, but I'm having some trouble with their website. Is there a better browser to use to read it than Firefox or IE? There seem to be missing icons and menus of different pages that are mking it hard to navigate...

A lot of departments/colleges were absorbed about 5-7 years ago. I can't find any mention of the Centre, so I'm guessing it was one of the ones to go.

Classics went as well, which is a pity. The four ancient uni's got together to somewhat streamline the offerings, so if you can't find something at one, try the others to see if it migrated.

Thanks! I'm torn about going for a graduate/postgraduate degree; I would love to do the academic work, but at the end of it I might not be able to find a way to stay. Whereas if I get the HSMP visa now (based on my ridiculously inflated salary, which I won't find there, but still...) then if I can work through the TLR/ILR/citizenship process, then later I could pursue studies if I flet like it (and if I can keep a nest egg intact for fees--which would be cheaper if I weren't a foreign student, too!)
