I am a tiny kitten, hear me roar!
10th-Jul-2006 10:32 pm
Kitty went out late today. She was too dang cuddly. Plus, I was tired. She was full of crazy energy when she went since she'd been in so long.

I went down to see how the garden flowers are coming along about 4 pm and discovered that Caoimhe is a true Aberdonian.

She'd killed me a pigeon.*

Bear in mind, this cat is small. Tiny. She probably exactly weighs 3 kg.** I'm guessing that the pigeon weighed a kilo. It would be like me fighting a...well, a really heavy guy. Admittedly, I have no claws.

Silly kitty, I don't eat meat.***

* She killed a sparrow before, but it was miniscule.
** Definitely more tramatizing to weigh myself in order to discover her weight.
***She apparently doesn't eat things covered in feathers because she wouldn't even lick the blood off her cheek and paw.

Perhaps she should have a bell to help warn the birds?

Yeah, animal activists seem to use bird killing as reasoning for cats to be kept indoors. I prefer the car flattening cat reasoning.

Lucky for Caoimhe she has a nice garden.

Personally I like cats being allowed outdoors. Equally, however, I'm quite keen on songbirds of which there's been a measurable decrease in the UK.

Placing a bell on a cats collar seems to be a reasonable compromise - it's not even going to stop them catching every bird they go after, just make the hunt a bit more of a challenge and give the birds a fighting chance.

Of course if the cat were trained to hunt seagulls... :)

well, pigeons are essentially airborne rats...
10th-Jul-2006 11:03 pm (UTC)
I'll ditto the pigeons=rats thing.

I did scold her about the sparrow and got a bell, but didn't put it on. I'll get up this minute and get it sorted. :)

Alternately, did you get a small package from me in the last little while? I just want to be sure it didn't get lost in translation.

I think there's a line from The Big Chill about that, when they're trying to get the bat out of the attic. Someone says bats are like rats with wings, and someone else says, no, *pigeons* are rats with wings . :-)

Have bell...not on cat due to forgetfulness, but it will go on tonight.

Go Caoimhe!
10th-Jul-2006 09:59 pm (UTC)
Um. Wouldn't it be more like you fighting a small dwarf with wings? :)

For the Horde!
10th-Jul-2006 11:01 pm (UTC)
Hahaha. Seriously, that made me laugh more than I have in weeks. :)

That surprises me. the only thing I see her doing is sitting underneath the rubarb.
did you see her catch it? because I think it was more likely to be monty.
11th-Jul-2006 12:03 am (UTC)
She caught it while Monty was inside, I'm pretty sure. At least, she was sitting next to the (still twitching) corpse and Monty was in sleeping on our landing windowsill.

But, she could have poached it from him. Very possible.

When she bags a labrador seagull, let me know.

Silly keetan. I think Zoticus would keel over from fright if he saw a pigeon, let alone a seagull.
11th-Jul-2006 10:58 am (UTC)
Is it decided that Zoticus is the name for your's?
12th-Jul-2006 02:07 am (UTC)
yep yep

I made the mistake of reading all this whilst eating me breakfast...or should I say trying to finish my breakfast...

Eep, I don't know if you've been to dinner last night or whether it's tonight, but a good gift would probably be flowers or fresh bread.

Sorry, I've been pulling library duty the last few days because I'm heading up into the highlands with friends tomorrow.
