It's been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely time

-couple-

ybunny, the fiance, has now been gone for 9 weeks.
9 weeks people.

Even when we were living on different sides of the Atlantic it wasn't that much longer of a separation.

Right now, he's due to get off the rig in Brazil today. *fingers crossed*

But, even that doesn't mean I'll see him this weekend. They'd have to drop him directly at the Rio de Janeiro Airport (or the Sao Paolo one, it doesn't matter to me) for him to get back by tomorrow.

That's provided there isn't a delay in the chopper getting to the rig, a delay in the chopper leaving the rig, a delay getting from the heliport to wherever they've decided he has to go before coming home, a delay getting to the airport.

But, it's just as likely that they won't have booked a ticket for today, so he won't leave until tomorrow. Or maybe even the next day.

I have no point to this. I'm just frustrated.

EDIT: I'm now told that 4:30pm Monday is the estimated arrival time. Bah.

So, I'll leave you with a picture of the Caoimhe.
She's a wee cheeky thing. :)

As indicated by my most recent post, I have much sympathy and shared angst for you.

Thanks.

It is a particular kind of angst, not easily described to someone not in a long-distance relationship.

Indeed. Sigh.

Pardon my being nosy, but since I'm fairly new to your list, what is it that he does that requires he be from home for long stretches at a time? Is this something that will be over in the foreseeable future, or part and parcel of his job? :(

:)

Nae bother, as they say.

He works as a Field Engineer for a firm that does tests on new or re-starting oil wells. To be honest, I'm not completely sure of all they do as some of it is considered 'your eyes only' kind of stuff.

It is, and at the same time isn't, part of his job. It's considered an ad-hoc offshore job, so technically they can keep him gone all year long, I suppose.

However, the company (and the ones that they contract for, I think Shell this time) would be constrained if they were in the North Sea instead of Brazil. There are no time limits to staying on a rig in Brazil, while in the N. Sea you can only stay for 2 weeks, 3 weeks if it is an absolute must.

When we first started dating, he was gone for 3-4 weeks on average with a few 2 week and 5 week trips thrown in. Because the demand for his type of services has gone up, he's gone for longer times. They need to hire more people, but until they can guarantee N. Sea type conditions, most people don't want to come on board at the company for long.

He took the job before we started dating. Now that it is so bad, he wants to change, but it is hard to know when he'll be back in order to schedule new job interviews.

Worse case scenario: He'll stay on at this company for another 2 years and then quit and live a life of ease once I start work as a phd. :)

Awww...I love grey kitties. :)

I once kindof had a grey kitten. He stayed with shineyquarter when I moved to Scotland. You could say she got custody. Hee.

A recent one of him.

On my back when he was a baby.

With his 'sister'.
