Truly an ecumenical service this morning. We had readings/reflections from various faiths: Jain, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Baha'i, and Christian.

Three hymns: Austria, Stroudwater, and...another.

We sang 'Nobody Knows' for the introit and the Holst from last week again as the anthem.

For Mass tonight it is Christ the King. Basically the last week for the de Angelis ordinaries. I'm ready for a new challenge.

------

Gala concert tonight at the music hall. We're doing the Kyrie from de Angelis and Monteverdi's Beatus Vir. Rehearsal was at 2pm so today has been go, go, go.

For Mass tonight it is Christ the King.

Also Stir-up Sunday! I hope you have some good hymns for it. We had “Crown him with Many Crowns”.

We ended with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament (in a monstrance), led by a thurifer walking backwards, while everyone sang The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Once the procession had returned to the altar, we had a mini-Benediction and sang Tantum Ergo.

OK; to be strictly accurate, we sang Come sing the praise of Jesus to the TUNE of the The Battle Hymn of the Republic, but it was a rousing hymn nonetheless.

For the offertory, I originally had Christ is the King, O friends rejoice! to Gelobt Sei Gott, but Himself decided he preferred The eternal gifts of Christ the King to Aeterna Christi Munera, so that's what we sang.

Crown him with many crowns would have been good, but we used Diademata the previous week for a St Margaret hymn, and people might have noticed. All hail the power of Jesus' name to Diadem would have been even better, but it rather loses its effect if you have only one bass and one tenor in the choir, and the congregation aren't in the habit of singing the lower parts.

Sorry, this is getting a bit long for a comment on someone else's blog. How did the King's evening congregation handle the feast?

Robin
