The Aberdeen City Archives did a document of the month up until December last year (not sure if they plan to continue).
All are pretty interesting, but what put me in the way of the Archives is my quest to learn to read secretary hand. It progresses, slowly.
The document for January 2008
is pretty awesome. It is a letter from the Marquess of Montrose1
demanding that the town surrender.2
What I find best about the letter is how he signs it: 'I am as you deserve'.
1- James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, percible and I decided that he must really be Faramir after seeing his portrait in the National Gallery of Scotland. Six years after the letter he was dead and is buried in St. Giles' High Kirk in Edinburgh.
2- During the Battle of Aberdeen
